Warrington’s Bin Collection Strike: Three Months and Counting, with Possible Extension into Christmas, New Year, and even into 2024

The town of Warrington is currently enduring a bin collection strike that has now stretched to a staggering three months. Initially planned to conclude by December 24, 2023, there is growing concern that this disruption may extend into Christmas, New Year, and even into 2024. This prolonged crisis has significantly impacted the daily lives of residents.

In response, Warrington Borough Council established a temporary waste collection location, operational during working hours. However, this measure has attracted a flurry of negative comments on Facebook, highlighting residents’ frustration with the situation. The temporary waste collection points are located at Victoria Park and Alder Lane, offering a partial solution to the mounting waste problem.

As the strike continues, the town faces the prospect of celebrating the festive season amidst uncollected rubbish, a situation that starkly contrasts with the usual holiday cheer. This ongoing issue underscores the critical importance of waste management services and the challenges faced by local governments in resolving labor disputes while maintaining essential public services.

Two drop-off points for household (black bin) waste have been setup. The waste drop-off points are:
📍 Victoria Park, Knutsford Road, WA4 1DG
📍Alder Lane, Orford, WA2 8AG
They will be open Monday-Friday, 10am-4pm from Tuesday 5 December: https://orlo.uk/Uc9qf
