1️⃣ 網上聯署背景
故事要由一個網上聯署講起。今年年初，有人發起一個請願書，要求英國政府 無條件授予持有 BNO 護照人士英國公民身份，亦即係無需經過「5+1」（五年居英+一年永居）程序，直接成為英國公民。
2️⃣ 請願書完結日期
聯署已於 2024年5月30日結束，並收到不少 BNO 持有人的支持。
3️⃣ 政府回應內容
英國政府喺回應中提到，佢哋 致力維持現行嘅 BNO Visa 安排，允許 BNO 持有人及其家屬喺英國居住、工作和讀書。但政府 冇計劃直接修改法律，以立即賦予 BNO 持有人英國公民身份。
不過，回應中特別提到：「BNO Visa 持有人完成五年後可申請永居，再經過一年永居後可申請入籍，而申請入籍時毋須證明英語能力或考 Life in the UK Test。」呢句話引起咗坊間熱烈討論！
