Answer: 2 March 2023
World Book Day is a global celebration of books and reading, and it is observed in over 100 countries around the world. In the United Kingdom, World Book Day is typically celebrated on the first Thursday in March, although in 2021 and 2022 it was moved to the second Thursday in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The purpose of World Book Day is to encourage children and young people to explore the pleasures of books and reading, and to promote literacy and education. Schools, libraries, and bookshops often organize special events and activities to mark the occasion, such as book fairs, author visits, and reading challenges.
As part of the celebrations, children in the UK are given a special World Book Day token that can be exchanged for one of several specially produced books or used to receive a discount on a full-price book. The aim is to make it easier for children to get their hands on a book and to encourage them to read more.
In addition, schools often arrange for children to dress up as their favourite book characters and give speeches or performances, increasing interaction and engagement among students. Many UK supermarkets such as ASDA and Sainsbury’s sell costumes for this purpose, but according to Amazon’s predictions, this year’s most popular book characters for dressing up are likely to be Harry Potter, The Cat in the Hat, and The Addams Family.
This year, there are 15 books available for children to choose from, and the process for exchanging them is very simple. All they need to do is click on the following links:
